iDoom prototype build
A downloadable game
i made a controller for doom during altctrl mod jam.
the theme was doomscroll. so i was inspired to make something that feels like a mobile phone (also as an homage to the golden era of mobile phone gaming). but i ended up with something not as compact.
the final build is made out of makeymakey and arcade buttons (normal circuits for WASD, buttons for shooting and camera directions) . there's no jump or E to open the doors.
but initially i wanted to use tilt sensor for one of the directions and piezo for the microphone to make it feel even more like a mobile phone. however, i broke the piezo before i even tested it and using the tilt sensor with makeymakey turned out to be tricky. here's a video of the early prototype which had a tilt sensor for S and a 'tail' for W:
during the presentation i demonstrated it as a two player co-op controller as i just attached the cameras in the very last minute and i think it's more fun to be played that way.
